An evening to benefit Valerie's House

Shangri-la Springs, Bonita Springs, FL
VIP hour 5:30pm - 6:30pm
Main Event at 6:30pm - 9:00pm

Leave your tux & ball gown in the closet... this event is island style, fun and totally comfortable. Find your favorite Tommy Bahama shirt and Lily Pulitzer-style dress and join us for an evening under the stars at the luxury Shangri-la Springs and Hotel, which is home to the original "Bonita Spring."

If you've never been to this hidden gem of a historic property, you are truly in for a surprise. Built in the 1920's, the property was once a secret retreat for the Hollywood stars of the Golden era.

Come enjoy this amazing scenery under the evening sky, surrounded by friends and colleagues, and the best of Florida's nature. Enjoy a Calypso Band, steel drums, flame throwers, Island-themed hors d'oeuvres, and a signature island drink! Our VIP hour includes a private tour by the property's owner, an open bar by the original "spring," and more extras!

Special art display of creations by Valerie's House Kids will be auctioned off, among other opportunities to splurge on yourself with signature silent auction packages, and more. All to help the Valerie's House mission!

WHAT WE DO

Valerie's House, Inc. is a non-profit organization devoted to providing children and their families, who have experienced the death of a loved one, a safe place to share and experience support with others who are also grieving, while moving through the healing process. Our mission is to help children and families work through the loss of a loved one together and go on to live fulfilling lives. Our vision is that no child will grieve alone. Learn more.

The Story of Valerie's House

Angela shares her vision for Valerie's House in this video from 2015. Just one year later, Valerie's House opened its doors.

After moving away to attend college and grow her career as a journalist, Angela returned to Fort Myers nearly 20 years later, in 2013. She quickly noticed there were very few resources for grieving families to connect and heal together. After pitching her vision for Valerie's House at an event supported by the Southwest Florida Community Foundation, Valerie's House was chosen as the winning idea. The selection led to a campaign for the initial funding for Valerie's House to launch.  With the help of many volunteers and funders, Southwest Florida has continued to support this growing organization ever since.

When Caryn Smith, an entrepreneur and local business owner, heard about Valerie's House, she immediately jumped in to help. She has been working with Angela to develop Valerie's House, raising awareness, securing donors, and working the "business side" of the non-profit, including creating a 5-year business plan* that many donors admit they have rarely seen so in depth and in detail. Along with a growing number of supporters and volunteers, Angela and Caryn are committed to improving the lives of grieving children by making Valerie's House a success.

Valerie's House is modeled after the nationally-recognized and acclaimed Dougy Center for Grieving Children. Among other services, it provides open-ended peer support groups and activities for children to heal after a significant loss in their life. Valerie's House is not a formal counseling center, it is a community and a platform for individuals to come together, and share and mentor one another through grief. There is nothing of this kind in Southwest Florida for children on an ongoing basis.
