6-9pm FREE to the public

On this evening celebrating Flowers and Trees there will be much more than visual art to entice you. Alchymie fills the great house with Native American Flute and Piano on February 4th and eight time Emmy and Peabody Award-winning composer and flutist, Kat Epple enchants the space with Pianist Dan Tudor on March 4th.

As you walk out onto the ancient grounds of Shangri-La, the Community Drumming Circle invites you to join into the rhythm. Bring your drums, shakers and hoola-hoops and add your spice to the mix. In the Long House you can stretch your body and mind with the community Yoga class. What a great way to experiment with yoga for the first time or to explore it anew with live drums and Kirtan in the background. Kirtan, an ancient form of chanting that has the ability to quiet the mind, will be set against an old Florida backdrop of meandering creek and deep nature. Flowers and trees will also be experssed in the live sidewalk chalk art of Jane Portaluppi Durand as she begins her 3rd masterpiece on February 4th. Jane completes the new work by the close of the show on April 1st, after which she washes the work away and starts again with the next art show theme. Truly something not to miss!

About the FLOWERS & TREES featured artists

Christi Vadnais

Christi makes her living designing and painting trompe l'oeil murals, faux finishes, custom commissioned canvasses and illustrating children's books.

Christi is a native of upstate NY and studied graphic design, sculpture and environmental science at SUNY Buffalo and Empire State College. Inspired by her late sister, Chicago costumer Sue Ennis, (hand-made versions of the Energizer bunny, Illinois Lotto ball characters, Budweiser beer wolf, etc), she became a specialty costume and prop maker, film makeup artist and backdrop painter for such productions as Disney on Ice, American Playhouse series films, feature film "Light of Day" with Michael J Fox, several national touring shows, TV commercials and theatrical productions across the country. She spent 5 years as art director at Rayge Display in Albany NY creating theme party décor and large corporate trade show displays. After successfully completing a commission to paint the areas first "open MRI" in Glens Falls NY to resemble an open-air Adirondack mountain retreat she was flown to Naples to create beach scenes for the second "open" in 1998 and has lived in Southwest Florida ever since, only a kayak ride away from Shangri-La.

Inspiration comes from the perfection of nature and the nature of paint, the drag of the brush across a surface, observing as images appear and change. In those moments of creation there is only the experience of being alive and in the moment.
